Their bodies were found at their Handsworth Wood home by their son, an officer with West Midlands Police.

Mr Liorancas was found hanged in his cell in Woodhill jail in Milton Keynes on Saturday."

Whilst this shooting is a tragedy for those involved, I fail to see why the Police should be concentrating on the fact that the killer legally owned six firearms, as by their own statement it appears only one was used:

"A woman whose car ran out of petrol in a supermarket car park after she shoplifted a large amount of alcohol has been given a suspended sentence.

She repeated the offence at the Hulme store in Manchester in October.

EU: Pull The Plug

The only saving grace of today's EU crisis meeting was David Cameron's refusal to fall in line with Sarkozy & Merkel's plans to tax & spend to the detriment of the UK's financial services sector.
I honestly think it will make little or no difference to the end result in any case: The single currency is doomed to fail, as a cost that those responsible (Greece being the worst example) expect others to bear.

Now is the time to expose the Socialist dream of a United States of Europe for what it is: a massive experiment in social engineering with its precepts based on political ideology, rather than sound economic policies.
Cap that with the feeding trough that is the European Parliament, the bureaucratic monster that swallows billions every year producing ever more regulation & the sinister machinations of the unelected Commissioners & you have a nightmare to terrify anyone with the slightest idea of how an economy thrives.

It is way past time for the UK to cut our losses & leave this mess behind: Let's rekindle our connections to the Commonwealth & abandon any notion that France & Germany see us as anything but a source of finance for their mutual idiocracy.
It WONT destroy our economy, as we will STILL be selling to the European market but not quite as much. This will be more than offset by the savings from deregulation & INCREASED trade with Commonwealth nations with which we share a heritage & innately conservative outlook.
There are far more potential customers in the Commonwealth than in the EU & most of THEIR economies weathered the global recession far better than Europe.

The EU is dead. Let's take it back to what we joined in 1970; a Common Market, no more & no less.

Bloody Weather

I'm beginning to think I'm cursed.
I land in Atlanta, GA & the weather instantly goes from clear & sunny to grey & drizzly.
Two days later I fly down to Albuquerque, NM & within 12 hours the winds are gusting up to 90mph. Then it snows on & off for three days & temperatures stay well below freezing throughout the day.
At least I'm going to miss the coming storm back in Cumbria but no doubt it'll still be miserable when I fly back on Monday.
Of course none of this has stopped me from going shooting at every opportunity.:-)

Goodbye Ojukwu

I note with sadness the passing of Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, leader of the Biafra, the breakaway state formed in southern Nigeria in 1967.
I can remember images of starving & poisoned people from the Biafran war, even though I wasn't even a teenager at the time.
Later I read Frederick Forsyth's book The Biafra Story, which painted an image of Ojukwu as a caring & dedicated leader of his people; the Igbo. He lived up to this image throughout his years after the war & played a part in making Nigeria better than it would have been had he not survived.
To this day, I think Biafra would have been a success had it not been for the despicable actions of the UK Labour government of Harold Wilson.
Wilson supplied arms & military advisers to the Nigerian regime, despite overwhelming evidence of its mistreatment & mass murder of eastern Nigerians. Despite this support, Ojukwu & his people held off the Nigerian military forces for three years, suffering conditions that cost the lives of at least a million Biafrans.
I believe, had it survived, an independent Biafra would have been one of the few successful states in Africa today,

My connection speed has recently increased by 30% - to a sloth like 1.7Mbps, so it only needs a threefold increase to reach the rather low average the UK currently suffers & a speed twenty times faster to reach what the favoured few elsewhere will receive.
Yet I'm paying exactly the same price for a far worse service & changing ISP's wont alter this, as it is poor infrastructure (BT's domain) to blame.

I'm pleased to see the campaign to have the clocks permanently advanced an hour is gaining support but some of the opposition is irrational at best & outright dishonest in some of their assertions.
I don't see why the government should allow the Scots to have a veto either, as they are only 8% of the UK population & mostly don't care either way. They want independence in any case, so demanding a veto is pure hypocrisy.
One thing I'm not so sure about is moving another hour ahead in the summer though - staying on BST all year round & thus no clock changing at all is my preference.

Why there was ever a possibility of charging him with murder is the question begging for an answer; carrying a firearm when committing a crime automatically places the victim in fear of their life. To me this means the victim is automatically within their right to use deadly force.

- Shooting tickets are included in the Ticketshare programme;
- The Ticketshare programme includes a range of groups - schools, BOA/BPA and Tickets for Troops;
- There are a small number of shooting tickets in the Ticketshare programme, and we planned to issue the tickets where the demand was greatest;
- Our initial consultation with schools suggested that there wasn't a demand for shooting tickets;
- However, if schools request shooting tickets, we will provide them, subject to availability;
We are absolutely clear that children are allowed into the venue at Games time - indeed, shooting is one of our Pay Your Age sports, and we have sold tickets to children and will continue to do so dependent upon availability.

"A suspected armed robber who was stabbed to death during a raid at a florist's had been cleared of murder nine years ago, it is understood.

Although details are sketchy, it appears that at least two people - one armed with a handgun - attempted to rob the florist & when threatened with deadly force, he defended himself with a knife; a lesser weapon than the one he felt was likely to be used against him.
If this is indeed the case, then he certainly used no more than reasonable force in protecting himself & his belongings.

Then it turns out the robber had a questionable past.

Of course all those related to the dead criminal are babbling on about how wonderful he was, when he was really a thieving piece of shit who appears to have carried a firearm to facilitate robbing people.
IF this was an armed robbery thwarted by the thief being terminated & following recent comments by the Home Secretary, one can only hope all charges are rapidly dropped.

I see no reason why a Police Officer should be able to shoot someone who points a firearm at him & have it called justifiable homicide if a florist can't also use lethal force in an even more threatening situation.

Once again a UK Police Force has misused a lethal weapon:

"An 82-year-old man was in hospital for days after being Tasered in west London by a Metropolitan Police officer.

Reading this article on the BBC, I came to some interesting numbers:

Public Sector Pensions

Whilst I'm no fan of public sector workers in general, I DO sympathise with those in junior positions who are faced with a huge cut in benefits, an extra eight years work & a big increase in their pension contributions.
Those at the bottom of the pile were attracted to the work because although the pay was shite, they had job security & a reasonable pension at the end to look forward to as compensation for said shite salary.

Now that's being denied too.

If these draconian measures were to be applied to the already overcompensated managers & those in senior positions, then I wouldn't care but hitting the already inadequately recompensed is insane.

I well recall as a junior civil servant receiving wage rises of less than 2% in the late 1980's whilst our bosses received 8% & more.
I can't say I have an axe to grind in this because I will get absolutely FUCK ALL pension for my four years total as a public sector employee because anyone with less than five years is told they don't qualify.
Nor do I get a single penny of my contributions back.....

After a couple of minor twinges mine kicked off in a major way at 04:00 on Thursday & in the last three days I've had two hours' sleep.
Painkillers are a fuggin' joke, as I've tried Ibuprofen, 50mg Tramadol & 60mg codeine, none of which has made the slightest difference.
Saw a dentist yesterday who confirmed that I have an infection under the tooth which is pressuring the nerve & got a prescription for penicillin but so far no change (except for the worse).
I think I'll go & saw off the right side of my face.....:-(

Been out to the range today to check zero on the L1A1 & do some pistol shooting to remind myself how terribly mediocre my handgun skills are.
Once I twiddled with it a bit the L1A1 was putting three rounds into half an inch at 30yds & right where I wanted them.

Pity my eyesight meant I was only achieving this half the time - I'd like to see what the rifle will do with a scope but I don't have any rings to mount on a Picatinny top cover.

Shooting the 1911 was better than I usually do (kept most of the rounds on the paper) but nothing startling. A new left handed holster was an improvement on farting around to stow the gun on my right side.
Oh well, I'm off to FAL Fest on Thursday& finishing above the bottom third is my target.

For a start; hollow point bullets are MORE likely to fragment than standard ball, they aren't designed to flatten but to expand & are intended to incapacitate more quickly.
They are NOT "unsurvivable" as stated, otherwise there would be many more deaths from gunshots in the US (where law enforcement officers ROUTINELY carry ammunition using this type of bullet).

This next part is sheer fantasy & slight upon deer stalkers by suggesting they would take a shot without being certain of what lies beyond their target:

This will be my fifth FAL Fest at the NRA Whittington Center(note correct US spelling), Raton, NM.
I always enjoy it & do as much shooting with EBR's & handgun there & back down in Albuquerque as possible seeing as the control freak governments here in the UK have banned both.
Funny how the US government trusts me more than my own (so long as I have the correct pieces of paper).
I'm thinking about visiting the Gila Wilderness in western NM whilst I'm over too - old cave dwellings & the area where Geronimo hung out at the beginning of the 20th century.

I wonder if I can make it there & back on a Chinese scooter.....

Ian Tomlinson: Justice - but for how long?

I'm relieved & heartened to see the jury at the inquest into Mr Tomlinson's death came to the only reasonable verdict; that PC Harwood unlawfully killed him.

"Ian Tomlinson was unlawfully killed by a Metropolitan Police officer at the G20 protests, an inquest jury has said.

The 47-year-old collapsed and died after he was hit by a baton and pushed to the ground by Pc Simon Harwood at the protests in London on 1 April 2009.

His family said the verdict was a "huge relief", while the Crown Prosecution Service could reopen criminal proceedings against Pc Harwood.

The officer said after the verdict he had not intended to push him over.

The jury decided Pc Harwood acted illegally, recklessly and dangerously, and used "excessive and unreasonable" force in striking Mr Tomlinson.

Jurors added that the newspaper seller, who was not taking part in the protests, posed no threat."

Far too often Police officers appear to be treated in a more lenient manner than ordinary citizens, when they should in fact be held to a higher standard when acting in an official capacity.
One can only hope the CPS will now think again about its refusal to prosecute PC Harwood & bring this case to court.
Unfortunately their past performance in this kind of case has been less than satisfactory, thus leading to crimes committed by officers going unpunished.
All too often the few convictions are also overturned on appeal due to "technicalities" rather than genuine innocence.

I hope for everyone (including all upstanding Police officers) that this case doesn't go that way.

Next is what to do about Pakistan: They have clearly been actively supporting & hiding bin Laden for some time, as there is NO WAY he could be living 200m from their version of Sandhurst Military Academy without the full knowledge of people high up in both the Pakistan Army & ISI, its intelligence service.
Because of this plain link, the UK needs to cease all aid until the Pakistan regime shows progress in removing, rather than supporting, Islamic radicals throughout the nation.
We should also place severe restrictions on travel to & from Pakistan to make it harder for our home grown radicals to go there for training.

The West should use the death of this dirtbag as a catalyst for change & the location of his death to come down hard on the regime in Pakistan.

A Hero Passes

I've always had a great deal of admiration for the Gurkha soldier & feel they have only recently been bestowed with the rights they so richly deserve.
One such man was Tul Bahadur Pun VC, a true stalwart & hero who passed away on Wednesday:

"A former Gurkha soldier who won the Victoria Cross and later became the figurehead for a campaign on Gurkha's rights to settle in the UK has died.

Tul Bahadur Pun died in his home village of Myagdi, in Nepal, aged 88.

He received the Victoria Cross for saving the lives of dozens of his comrades in Burma during WWII.

In 2009 he campaigned for Gurkhas' rights alongside actress Joanna Lumley, who credited him as having saved her own soldier father's life in 1944.

Although Mr Pun was listed as 88 years old when he died it is thought his real age was 92, because birth records were inaccurate in the country at the time.

He won the military decoration after he saved the lives of his comrades by single-handedly attacking a Japanese machine-gun position in Burma in June 1944."

The current system SUCKS because millions of voters are denied representation of their views & the Alternative Vote in a small way alleviates but fails to address the issue in that you get to vote fore the candidate you despise only a little more than your original choice (I'm making the assumption that few, if any, intelligent folk see our elected representatives as anything other than the lesser of evils).

Despite it's limitations, I feel AV is closer to my belief in constitutional conservatism than what we have now & I will be voting FOR the introduction of AV.

The concept of AV should also be applied to parish, district & county elections; an area where I consider it would make a far greater difference than at a national level - would scare the shit out of some of the local leeches too.....
