Man shot dead in post office raid
"A man has been shot dead in a robbery at his family's post office in a village in Worcestershire.
Craig Hodson-Walker, 29, son of sub-postmaster Ken Hodson-Walker, was shot in the chest at Fairfields Store, in Fairfield, near Bromsgrove.
A second man was shot in the leg during the raid carried out by three men armed with a handgun and a sledgehammer."
"One Fairfield resident, who knew the Hodson-Walker family, said Craig, "was a nice bloke but he was no shrinking violet".
"I can imagine he would have had a go. He was not the sort to say OK, when maybe he should have done."
The same post office was raided five years ago and Gordon Witcomb, chairman of a neighbouring parish council, said he was not surprised to hear of the robbery.
"It is funny because around here there are a lot of little shops and there seems to be a programme of them being attacked by armed robbers," he said"What pisses me off most about incidents like this is that successive government's have deliberately & callously set out to disarm potential victims in the name of "Crime Control."
How the fuck does making it impossible for a shopkeeper or householder to defend themselves against armed scum work to reduce crime?
The Police aren't a deterrent; they're most often mere historians who arrive when it's all too late & take notes in the hope that they might at some time in the future get lucky (with overall conviction rates running at less than 20%, I wouldn't hold out much hope....).
The best way to reduce tragedies like this is to make the criminal decide that the risks engendered aren't worth the rewards, or failing that; by putting a permanent end to his career with a bullet in the face.
Both can be achieved without the need for an armed Police officer on verey street corner......
